Taiji Resources

Taiji is a martial art based on the principle of Yin and Yang, founded in Taoist philosophy with strong connections to Chinese Medicine, Acupuncture, Fung Shui and Chinese Herbology.  We encourage our students to enrich their tai chi practice and spiritual growth by exploring these connections.

GateWay students may check out a wide-ranging selection of books and videotapes about taiji and related disciplines.

Publications

Beyond our limited local collection, we encourage each and all to visit the Publication Center on the YMAA Web site, where you will find an unparalleled collection of resources about the Chinese martial arts - including ancient texts translated for the first time by Dr. Yang, Jwing-Ming.

In ancient times, before most people could read or write, knowledge was passed down through the generations through dance and song.  In this light, taiji is truly the dance of the ancient ones.

About Our Spelling

You'll notice that we use different spellings for "taiji" and "qigong."  The old spelling of Qigong was Chi Kung. The change from Chi Kung to Qigong and Tai Chi to Taiji is a move from what was called the “Wade-Giles” spelling or Romanization to the “Pinyin” version, which is now more broadly accepted.
